SUMMARY:Fundamentals of Fire Investigation
DESCRIPTION:This training is intended for public safety professionals working toward becoming a Fire Investigation Technician (FIT) or those who already are. \n \nThis 40-hour tested course is designed to provide the new fire investigator with the prerequisite knowledge necessary to properly determine the origin and cause of a fire and to refresh the experienced fire investigator with his/her current knowledge base as it relates to the scientific investigation of a fire scene. DESCRIPTION:This course is designed to equip participants with the skills to be full or part-time PIOs\, including oral and written communications; understanding and working with the media; and basic tools and techniques to perform effectively as a PIO\, both in the proactive/advocacy times and crisis/emergency response. \nCourse objectives include: \n\nUsing the strategic communications planning model\, develop a public awareness campaign (95%)\nUsing the strategic communications planning model\, develop an incident communications strategy (5%)\nIndicate the purpose of a public awareness campaign\nIdentify the steps in developing a public awareness campaign\nDevelop a strategy for an awareness campaign on a selected topic\nChange the method of developing a plan to follow the 8-step StratCom process\nDemonstrate the role and function of the PIO in both day-to-day emergency environments\nCompare actions PIOs can take to work with the news media during day-to-day and emergency situation\nDescribe different public information written products\nApply effective news release writing guidance\nAdapt or repurpose written media products for social media\nDescribe what types of impressions specific body language might convey during an interview\nIdentify elements of an interview the PIO should consider ahead of time\nIdentify steps a PIO needs to take to prepare for and conduct a news interview\nDemonstrate effective techniques for on-camera interviews\n\nComplete the initial registration at https://learning.dps.ohio.gov/.  A follow-on email will be received with more instructions.
